AGENCIA ESPACIAL CIVIL ECUATORIANA MONITOREÓ EVENTO
DE CUASI-COLISIÓN DE SATÉLITES SOBRE TERRITORIO ECUATORIANO

Guayaquil, 5 de Febrero, 2010.- Hoy, viernes 5 de febrero de 2010 a las 0h20:21 los satélites Iridium-33 y Swiss-Cube pasaron sobre territorio ecuatoriano en las coordenadas 0°26'1.32"S 80°22'27.48"W a una altura aproximada de 725km.

Su trayectoria de encuentro tuvo una separación aproximada de 1058m evitando una probable colisión entre los dos objetos.

La División de Operaciones Espaciales de la agencia Espacial Civil Ecuatoriana, EXA, bajo el mando del Cmdte. Ronnie Nader, supervisó este evento para alertar a las autoridades sobre el particular, de manera especial a la Dirección de Desarrollo Aeroespacial de la FAE y la Secretaría Nacional de Riesgos, para evitar posibles accidentes y daños materiales por caída de escombros.

El Centro Espacial EPFL de Suiza, dueña del Swiss-Cube recibió la señal de su satélite en vivo desde el Centro de Control de Vuelo Espacial HERMES-A/MINOTAURO para comprobar y monitorear la actividad del satélite, El Dr. Noca Muriel agradeció a EXA en los siguientes términos:

Mr. Reto was present via your ops center, very nice! He said he got scared at some point when the signal faded away, but then it came back again. We will probably have other close encounters, and the first one is always scary…

This event is giving even more enthusiasm for one of our next mission ideas: Clean-mE, a small orbital debris remover, that we have started to study a few months ago.

"SwissCube survived also the close approach on January 5th and on February 5th with remnant debris of the collision between IRIDIUM and COSMOS. See a picture in the attached file… It turns out also that the country of Equator was also concerned by atmospheric reentry and possible landing in their country and, thanks to them, we could follow live the close approach of January 5th.
